Mr Alister Turner - Plastic Surgeon

Breast Repositioning, Breast Lift or Mastopexy

This is a surgical procedure performed on the breasts to correct sagging or dropped breasts.  This is a condition known as Ptosis of the Breasts.  The objective of the operation is to lift and firm the breasts, giving them a more youthful or perky appearance.

Ptosis of the breasts can result from breast feeding, weight loss or simply loss of elasticity in the skin that comes with ageing.  Although the patient may have full, satisfactory size breasts the loose skin means that the patient may feel discomfort unless wearing a bra and clothing such as bathers may present a problem.  Exercise will not cause any significant difference or improvement to the situation.

The surgery to address this condition is performed under general anaesthesia. The surgical procedure involves repositioning the nipple areolar area which still remains attached to the underlying breast tissue.  Breast feeding is still possible and sensation in the nipple remains unchanged.  No breast tissue is removed; skin only with a tightening to the skin envelope.  Where the breasts are of unequal size or shape or asymmetrical, this can be addressed and corrected with the repositioning.  The procedure is generally performed as day surgery as drains are not required. This allows the patient to return home in the afternoon of their surgery.

Breast Repositioning and lifting is relatively pain free and most patients return to work after about 4 days. Some patients may qualify for a Medicare Item Number for this procedure.  This will allow the patient to claim a proportion of the cost back from Medicare and their Health Insurance which may also provide some level of cover for the associated hospital costs.

Breast Repositioning and Breast Lifting is one of Mr Turner’s most frequently performed procedures.  For further information regarding Mr Turner’s qualifications, please visit the About Us page on the website.  If you would like further information regarding this procedure please use the Contact Us section of this website and submit your enquiry.
