Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation enlarges firms and lifts the breasts. With over 30 years experience performing breast enlargement surgery, Mr Turner believes most patients are best served by the use of cohesive gel implants as they produce the best, most predictable results. A long term user of this type of implant, Mr Turner is credited with being one of the first plastic surgeons in Australia to perfect the surgical techniques necessary to produce natural looking results. (See below)
WHY PLACE THE BREAST IMPLANT ON TOP OF THE MUSCLE?
Mr Turner believes breast augmentation results are at their best when the implant is inserted on top of the muscle as this allows fixation of the textured implant to the breast tissue above. Importantly, this will act to secure the breast implant into place.
When breast augmentation is performed by placing the implant underneath the pectoral muscle the implant is not able to adhere or fix itself into position, the initial results may be pleasing but eventually muscle activity and movement can tend to push the implant sideways and/or downwards leading to a disfiguring result.
WHY GEL BREAST IMPLANTS?
Cohesive gel implants produce good long term breast augmentation results in both appearance and soft natural consistency. Once surgery is performed, the natural breast tissue adheres to the textured surface of the gel implant. This greatly reduces the likelihood of capsular contracture, a hardening of the breasts that sometimes results from implant surgery. Cohesive gel implants hold their shape and therefore are much less likely to form the crinkles or grooves associated with the use of saline breast implants. Saline implants may also deflate with time.
There is now over a hundred different gel breast implant shapes and sizes available. This delivers a substantial selection of choice with regard to implant size and shape and caters for the diversity of patient physicality. Interestingly, even with the confusing array of different implants available, there is still only a fairly small number within the diverse range that will meet the needs of each individual patient.
WHY EXPERIENCE COUNTS
Mr Turner can call on many years of extensive experience performing breast augmentation surgery; this experience allows for a relatively easy tailoring of breast implant size and shape to meet patient need. The choice comes down to size, height, width and projection of the implant with regard to the physical characteristics of the patient. For example, the height of the patient and the natural fullness of the breasts will be considered when determining what will lead to the best possible result for that patient. Mr Turner is able to call on over 30 year’s experience performing breast implant surgery, which for this procedure, is vital to provide a satisfactory outcome for the patient.
A very large proportion of Mr Turner’s work in breast augmentation surgery comes from patient to patient referral. Breast augmentation is one of Mr Turner’s most commonly performed procedures. *Since 1998 Mr Turner has consistently remained in the top 5% of users of cohesive-gel breast implants in Australia. Additionally he is also one of the first Plastic Surgeons in Australia to perfect specific surgical techniques for natural results using this type of implant.
